Who invented it?

Wilhelm Altendorf (1874-1948) invented the sliding table saw concept in 1906. Altendorf was a German designer and mechanical engineer. Today's modern woodworking would be unthinkable without his sliding table saw.

By rotating the wooden panel by 90° and sawing it again using the sliding table saw, an exact rectangular panel was created.

The structure of a sliding table saw

The workpiece holders are mounted on rails. The material is pushed through the saw units on these rails with the stops.

The saw blade attachment of the individual saw units does not differ from attachment to a normal circular saw. The saw blade is centered on the drive shaft and tightened with a nut. The drive shaft has a direct connection to the drive motor (electric motor).

The safety precautions, such as the covers, are also prescribed for each individual saw unit of the sliding table saws.

All functions and adjustments that are defined by handwheels and clamping levers on sliding table saws can also be automated. Adjusting motors and brakes can be used here, as with other machine tools. Finally, a CNC control takes over the automated movement of the stops, axes and spindles.
